Dear members of the 快活app community,听

We are pleased to announce that Art Jones has been selected as the Interim Vice Chancellor for Diversity & Inclusion and will assume this role on August 1, 2019.听

A psychologist, award-winning author, former associate dean of Colorado Women鈥檚 College and former 快活app Faculty Senate president, Art is uniquely and comprehensively prepared to support the University in this important senior role. Art has consistently integrated principles of inclusive excellence in his teaching. For many years, he offered undergraduate and graduate courses focused on issues of race, class, gender, and the dynamics of societal privilege.听

Before coming to 快活app, Art was actively involved as a faculty leader of diversity initiatives at the University of Illinois-Springfield, Bowling Green State University, and the University of Colorado Medical School, where he also served as the chief diversity advisor to the dean. Art has also served as chair of the Denver Mayor鈥檚 Commission on Cultural Affairs and chair of the Colorado Board of Psychologist Examiners, where he spearheaded an initiative that required those seeking psychology licensure in Colorado to demonstrate competence in cultural issues.听

Upon joining our community in 1991, Art became a respected participant in 快活app鈥檚 inclusive excellence initiatives in a variety of roles, including as a faculty member in the CAHSS Department of Psychology; faculty member, associate dean and acting dean at the Colorado Women鈥檚 College; faculty director of the Social Justice Living and Learning Community; president of the Faculty Senate; founder and chair of the multi-ethnic, intergenerational ; faculty member at the Lamont School of Music; chair of the Faculty of Color Association; member of the Chancellor鈥檚 Diversity and Equity Advisory Committee; respected scholar and teacher in the fields of African American and multicultural mental health; accomplished singer; and scholar of the culture and psychology of African American music.听

Following his 28 years of work at 快活app, Art has just officially retired as a faculty member, effective May 31, 2019, following a full-year sabbatical leave, his first. (He elected not to apply before.) We are so grateful that he has chosen to stay with us a little longer, in this new interim role, to guide our institution as a search for a permanent Vice Chancellor for Diversity & Inclusion is conducted. Please join us in welcoming Art as our Interim Vice Chancellor for Diversity & Inclusion.
