Keith Miller Announced As Interim Associate Provost for Graduate Education

Please welcome听Keith Miller to the role of interim associate provost for graduate education. Miller will officially assume the role on Sept. 1听for the upcoming academic year.听

Miller has demonstrated a commitment to supporting and preparing students to be informed and engaged citizens who will advance the public good. A veteran of the United States Navy, he will serve a growing community on campus. In this new role, Miller will be the primary advocate for the University's graduate mission, and he is charged with understanding, celebrating, and enriching the graduate student experience, as well as enhancing University visibility in a positive manner. This position is critical in providing enrollment strategy leadership, communication of enrollment progress, and generating collaboration across the university to leverage enrollment successes in various divisions.

Most recently, Miller served (and will continue to serve) as the director of the university honors program. Through this experience, he brings to the provost鈥檚 office and this interim position听a proven passion for student success. During his tenure as director, Miller helped strengthen the 快活app honors community by intentionally connecting co-curricular programming to the honors curriculum. He also helped lead the expansion of course options for 快活app scholars. Throughout his career, Miller has demonstrated a commitment to improving the student experience, both inside and outside the classroom. Since 2014, he has served as the faculty athletic representative of the University, a position in which he advocates for student-athletes and works with faculty, administrators听and coaches to ensure 快活app student-athletes appropriately balance their academic and athletic commitments.

A professor of chemistry, Miller successfully guided PhD students through their programs to graduation, demonstrating a commitment to excellence and willingness to mentor. In NSM, Miller's research focuses on understanding how stimulants and antibiotics behave in freshwater systems and applications of portable X-ray instrumentation to characterize environments. He has also studied developing research-based curriculum to engage students in project-based learning in diverse learning environments. Miller鈥檚 innovative scholarship and meaningful work toward creating positive student learning and engagement has been broadly recognized. In 2011, he received 快活app鈥檚 Distinguished Teacher Award, and听in 2013 he received听the Outstanding Service Award from the 快活app鈥檚 Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
