Collaboration between Newman Center and Korbel School promotes cultural diplomacy

Last week, the Newman Center for the Performing Arts presented cellist Yo-Yo Ma鈥檚 all-star world music ensemble, the . The mini-residency included a performance Feb. 1 as part of the series, as well as a Jan. 30 panel discussion with faculty from the on the topic of cultural diplomacy.

Acting Dean Pardis Mahdavi and Cullen Hendrix, associate professor, engaged the musicians on cultural diplomacy from both an artistic and academic perspective. Nearly 150 people attended, including Korbel students, faculty, and staff and Newman Center subscribers, donors and community members. The Silkroad Ensemble also hosted students, faculty and community members at an interactive open rehearsal before their Feb. 1 performance.
