When the 快活app women鈥檚 lacrosse team faces Stanford this weekend, will do something she鈥檚 never done before: play against her sister.

Before joining 快活app鈥檚 team in 2023, Trinity played at Johns Hopkins University and graduated with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in psychology. For two of those years in Baltimore, she played alongside her sister, Madison, who also plays defense.

鈥淲e鈥檝e always just grown up being each other's biggest cheerleaders and biggest support,鈥 says Trinity, who鈥檚 pursuing her . 鈥淚t's going to be very different channeling the competitiveness that we both have in the sport and directing it a little bit more at each other.鈥

For Madison, who joined Stanford for the 2023-2024 season as a graduate transfer, the idea of competing against one another brings up a lot of 鈥渕ixed emotions.鈥

This will be the first鈥攁nd possibly only鈥攖ime the McPherson sisters will play against one another in their respective collegiate careers. Trinity returned to Denver for a second year for what she refers to as her 鈥済reat grandma鈥 season in her final year of eligibility.

Playing on the same team at Johns Hopkins benefited each of them tremendously, as athletes and as people.

鈥淣ot only did I admire her as a player because she鈥檚 the best defender I鈥檝e ever played with鈥攔egardless of her being my sister or not鈥攂ut also knowing that I had unconditional love behind that as well was so encouraging,鈥 Madison says. 鈥淗ow can you not succeed when you have that support system behind you?鈥

Family is everything, Trinity says, and geographic distance isn鈥檛 a barrier鈥攖he family has remained very close no matter where they are in the world.

She was born in South Africa and spent a short period of time in Los Angeles before moving to Baltimore鈥攚here she spent most of her childhood. When she was in high school, the family moved to the Philippines for her dad鈥檚 job. Now, her parents live in Angola, she鈥檚 in Denver, and Madison is in California.

鈥淲hen we鈥檙e together, we鈥檙e intentional about it, and when we鈥檙e not, we do what we can to stay connected, but it never really feels like we鈥檙e ever far apart,鈥 Madison says.

Even when they鈥檙e apart and don鈥檛 have time to catch up over text or on FaceTime, they often find themselves watching or talking about one another during film sessions because Stanford and 快活app play similar opponents.

Regardless of the final score on Sunday, the two look forward to being in the same state for a short period of time with their mother鈥攚ho made the trip all the way from Africa for the game.

鈥淚t still is nice knowing that, even though she鈥檚 an opponent that weekend, I still feel like there鈥檚 somebody on the field that is cheering me on,鈥 Trinity says. 鈥淚t鈥檚 fun going into the game knowing that I have a personal goal, my team has a goal, and I鈥檓 also still rooting for my sister. I鈥檓 still always wishing her the best.鈥
