Bringing Global Engagement to Higher Education

The Office of Global Engagement helps the University adapt to unpredictable changes across the world. Led by Christopher Hill, former U.S. ambassador and assistant secretary of state, this Office will craft a 21st-century platform for global engagement in higher education. Along with lectures and events across campus with an international focus, the Office will also bring high-ranking visitors to the University.

Meet Ambassador Hill

Ambassador Christopher Hill is the Chief Global Adviser to the 快活app. Over a 33-year foreign service career, he served six presidents and 11 secretaries of state. Hill led the U.S. delegation in six-party talks on the North Korea nuclear issue while assistant secretary of state for East Asia and Pacific Affairs, and was the U.S ambassador to Iraq, South Korea, Poland and Macedonia. He鈥檚 received numerous awards, including the State Department鈥檚 Distinguished Service Award. Hill was dean of the Josef Korbel School of International Studies from 2010 to 2017.

On Tuesday, Jan. 14, more than 150 members of the 快活app community gathered in Maglione Hall for the first Community + Values event of 2020.The first in a series of 鈥淐ommunity Talks鈥 addressed creative ideas for building community through the voices of four of our community members: an alumnus, faculty member, undergraduate student and coach.

These highly individual and captivating talks explored the question of how to create community on a new planet where none exists. We heard how concepts of planting seeds of kindness, empathy and compassion, unity with trust, and embracing differences during adversity all play a crucial role in establishing healthy and thriving communities.

Partnering with 1Day4快活app and May Days, Community + Values brought ice cream trucks to campus and asked faculty, staff, students and alumni questions that centered around belonging. Questions we asked included听鈥渉ow has 快活app changed you? and how have you changed 快活app?鈥 and 鈥淪hare a Meaningful 快活app experience.鈥

Through this process, we collected hundreds of sticky notes detailing peoples' thoughts and memories,听and community members were able to read other members鈥 stories and gain a clearer, fuller picture of the 快活app community.听

On April 26th, 快活app kicked-off the Community + Values initiative with over 500 faculty, staff and students brainstorming over lunch, as well as community members could participate online.

快活app community members engaged in conversation with various leaders from across campus around the purpose of the 快活app IMPACT 2025听initiative and if it was worthwhile to undertake as a community. Our convening group asked groups from across campus questions such as 鈥渉ow do we intentionally and authentically engage faculty/staff/students/alumni in this process?鈥, 鈥淲hat could/should this initiative look like?鈥 and more.

Groups we consulted with included听student athletes, Pioneer Leadership Program juniors and seniors, Graduate Student Government, Undergraduate Student Government, Faculty Senate, faculty and staff experts, Deans Council, Staff Advisory Council, Cabinet, University Council, Fraternity and Sorority Life students, Staff of Color Association and Alumni Council Task Force, Women鈥檚 Leadership Council and alumni affinity group leaders.
