In July, I made a promise that we would have a plan in place at the ¿ì»îapp to substantively and urgently address issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) on campus this year. In August, we shared the draft of our action plan and solicited feedback from the ¿ì»îapp community. Today, we are moving into the final and most critical stage and commencing the vital work of its implementation over the academic year.Ìý

Dear ¿ì»îapp community members,
Twenty years ago, the ¿ì»îapp held its first Diversity Summit. At that time, we took one of the first major steps toward making our campus more inclusive. For many, looking back on those 20 years brings up conflicting emotions. We recognize the ways we’ve moved forward, and we feel proud. But we also recognize there is always more to be done.

Dear ¿ì»îapp community members,
I want to share some important news concerning our diversity, equity and inclusion efforts at the ¿ì»îapp. In the spring, we temporarily paused the search for our new vice chancellor for diversity, equity, and inclusion (VCDEI) after receiving helpful feedback on what our faculty, students, and staff truly want from this role. We learned that ¿ì»îapp yearns for a VCDEI that can speak to and represent the breadth of our community. As such, we changed the position description to more accurately reflect this shared goal.Ìý
