Implementing change this coming academic year

Announcement  •

SinceÌýthe launch of the annual Diversity Summit twenty years ago, the ¿ì»îapp has worked to engage and critically question the ways in which we as a community (students, staff, faculty, alumni, leadership, and community partners) could more fully embody our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). As we begin the 2020-2021 academic year, ¿ì»îapp’s DEI work will engage in five areas of impact, each with specific action items, aimed at securing leadership, taking action, and increasing accountability and consistency across the university. This action plan will serve as a new platformÌýas we enter into the next stages of our vision for a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive ¿ì»îapp.

The areas detailed belowÌýare linked to ¿ì»îapp’s newly reimagined DEIÌýweb portalÌýthatÌýalsoÌýincludesÌýinformationÌýand updatesÌýon ¿ì»îapp’sÌýlarger DEI commitments, such asÌýour workÌýonÌýsupporting ¿ì»îapp’s Native American and Indigenous community.ÌýÌýFollowÌýeachÌýlinkÌýbelowÌýtoÌýlearn moreÌýabout each action item, including anticipated dates for completion, updates, assessmentÌýand opportunities for engagement.Ìý This Action Plan willÌýserve asÌýaÌýnewÌýlaunching padÌýas weÌýenter intoÌýthe next stages of our visionÌýfor a more diverse, equitable and inclusive ¿ì»îapp.ÌýÌýÌý

2.ÌýGive DEI power, authority, and accountability

  • InitiateÌýcampus-wideÌýas well asÌýdivision-level diversity, equity, and inclusion leadership, planning, and supportÌýÌý
  • Establish a DEI steering committee that includes the chancellor, provost and unit-level DE leadershipÌý
  • Conduct a comprehensive review of DEI campus climate workgroups, studies, reports and student demands followedÌýby regular updatesÌýandÌýconsistent use of dataÌý

3.ÌýInvest in and provide training for students, staff, and faculty

  • Identify and address institutional barriers at ¿ì»îapp to close theÌýopportunityÌýgap between minoritized students and non-minoritized studentsÌý
  • Advance faculty diversity andÌýretentionÌý
  • Institute baseline, mandatory training and continued professional development for administration, faculty, staff and studentsÌý
